Service, Observation, Behavior Modification, Education and Rehabilitation
The S.O.B.E.R. Program is an underage drinking prevention program offering services in Wood County.
The program is funded by the OJJDP, WV Division of Criminal Justice, and the Wood County Commission. The program is coordinated in the Juvenile Probation Office.
A diversion program is offered for those under 21 years of age who have been cited for alcohol related offenses. Referrals receive education about alcohol and complete community service work.
Education
Speakers are available, providing information on alcohol dangers and underage drinking issues. Education is provided to retailers on the laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol, and periodic compliance checks are conducted in conjunction with law enforcement.
