Working With Our Youth
The Parkersburg Police Department has a full time Juvenile Specialist working out of the Detective Bureau. That position has been in place since 1984.
The Juvenile Specialist investigates all crime in which juveniles are involved. In addition to investigations, the Juvenile Specialist also oversees the police departments juvenile diversion program, prepares cases for prosecution and aid in the prosecution process. Additionally, the Juvenile Specialist works with all state, county, and other local law enforcement agencies, as well as the school system and juvenile probation on all matters pertaining to enforcement of laws governing juvenile delinquency.
Pre-Delinquency Service
The Juvenile Specialist is also available to work with troubled children and their families as part of a pre-delinquency, proactive strategy provided by the Parkersburg Police Department.
