K9 Division

K9 Division

The Parkersburg Police Department currently has two K9s Rex and Fedor along with their handlers  PFC J.M Stalnaker and PFC J.W. Pelfrey that assist in search and seizures.  We have been extremely fortunate to have these two highly trained K9s on our team.  For the 2007 year we are hoping to add another K9 to our  division with the assistance of the community in the form of contributions.  If you or your organization would like to make a contribution to the K9 Program please contact Lt. T.C. Welch at 304-424-8459 or write to PO BOX 1167 Parkersburg WV 26101.

Training

PFC J.M. Stalnaker and PFC J.W. Pelfrey have attended training at Lynnwoods Kennels Inc. in Fremont Ohio where they met their new partners, Rex and Fedor.  After six weeks of intense training, K9 and cop became one, and the respect and admiration each have for one another is obvious.  The dogs are trained in narcotics detection, tracking, criminal apprehension and building searches.  The officers shifts and days off are staggered to provide the most coverage possible for the city during the week.
