About the Derby
The Parkersburg Fishing Derby is an annual event that has become a favorite of young and old alike.
The Derby is held at both city park ponds, which are stocked with trout before the event. These two ponds are at these locations in Parkersburg:
- Parkersburg City Park, 17th Street & Park Avenue
- Southwood Park, Belmont Road off Blizzard Drive
Prizes are awarded, according to age groups, for those youngsters catching the largest trout. In many cases, these prizes are donated by local merchants. Various civic and government groups help staff the event.
The Event
The event is held rain or shine and has been applauded as a true "family event" for the citizens of Parkersburg.
