Drug-free Picnic

The Drug-Free Picnic

The annual drug free picnic was held at Southwood Park this summer. It was a resounding success and next year's picnic is already being planned.

The picnic was the vision of Lieutenant Delmas Barker, II, who wanted an opportunity to give something back to the youth of the City.

As Lieutenant Barker said, the youth of the City often see the police at the worst of times, traffic crashes, criminal incidents, and other enforcement incidents. He wanted the kids to come in contact with the agency in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

Support for the Picnic

The picnic could not have taken place without many in city government and the private sector. The Mayor's office and Community Development were instrumental in paving the way. Local businesses and civic groups helped by donating food, prizes and expertise.

The picnic is truly one of the best examples of Community Policing. The police developed an idea to support the police/community relationship. They went to the citizens and the event was held.

The Parkersburg Police Department Drug Free picnic is an event that all citizens can be proud of.
